Fasteners are used in behavior is often temporary, in the sense that they may be tied up and off repeatedly.
Some types of wood joints utilize a separate internal reinforcements, such as a pen or a biscuit, which in some sense can be considered fasteners within the scope of the system together, even though their own they are not general purpose fasteners.
Furniture package included in flat form often uses cam pen locked by cam locks, also known asconformat fasteners.
Items such as, string wire rope, (e.g. metal wire, possibly coated with plastic, or a parallel cable that is guarded by a plastic strip coating), cable, chain, or plastic wrap can be used to mechanically join objects, but generally not categorized as fasteners because they have additional general use. Likewise, hinges and springs may join objects together, but usually not considered fasteners because their primary purpose is to allow articulation rather than rigid affixment.
